Med student still finds time to competeAnn Marie Patterson probably wishes she had time to trade her white coat for a football jersey every once in a while. With clinical rotations in Greenville, S.C., life is hectic these days for the 3rd Year student from Versailles, KY. But as a 2nd Year, she was able to find time for weekly games of intramural flag football. "We're medical students, so we're competitive," she says. "Most of us played sports before, so we enjoy doing intramurals. "It's a really nice way to relieve a little stress. It only takes an hour--enough time to get out and exercise and work with your teammates. We find it's a lot of fun." Patterson admits medical students, with their rigorous schedules, are at a disadvantage against their undergraduate opponents. "You don't always have a lot of time to practice. But it's fun whether you win or not." Patterson, who also played intramural volleyball, says the university has worked to incorporate the School of Medicine into student life activities despite its separation from the main campus. "We have it worked out so football tickets come to us rather than us having to go to Russell House (University Union) to pick them up. We also try to get to the Wellness and Fitness Center as much as we can."
